1.) This question made me do a bit of research on smoking. From all the research I have done I've come down to 3 diffrent conclusions. 1.) Ponyboy was pulled into smoking by peer pressure. 2.)Ponyboy started smoking because he was stressed. 3.) Ponyboy started smoking because he thought it was cool. Out of all of these choices I would most likely go with the third because in the story Ponyboy talks about how his greaser buddies take long drags of their smokes to look cool.

1.) I think Ponyboy smokes because he thinks it is cool and sometimes because he is stressed or feels like he needs to calm down.
2.) Maybe they started the gang because they felt different then other people (socs). They acted different and did different things than them and did not like them.
